Our Generator Maintenance Process

At Anderson York, we follow a thorough and detailed process to maintain your generator, ensuring it’s working optimally:

1

Exterior Inspection

We begin by inspecting the generator housing for any signs of corrosion or physical damage. This includes a visual assessment of all electrical and mechanical components for fault codes, loose connections, leaks, and signs of wear. Additionally, we examine the fuel piping and fuel lines for cracks, wear, and gas leakage. To protect the unit from environmental damage, a protective wax coating is applied to the generator enclosure annually as instructed.

2

Interior Maintenance

Next, we thoroughly clean the generator by removing any debris from the unit, air inlets, and exhaust louvers. We also inspect the wiring for signs of vibration, wear and tear, or insulation breakdown. The exhaust system is checked for leaks or obstructions, and any loose wires, connections, corrosion, or blown fuses are addressed during this inspection.

3

Transfer Switch Assessment

The transfer switch housing is examined for corrosion or physical damage, and we ensure that all wire connections are tight. We inspect the switch for any corrosion or blown fuses and conduct a utility outage test to verify the transfer switch is functioning properly. This ensures that your generator will switch on automatically during a power outage.

4

Load Bank Battery Maintenance

Our technicians test the voltage of your generator’s battery and record the results. We assess the charging system to ensure it’s working properly. If any battery corrosion is present, we clean it, and we inspect the battery posts for any signs of damage. Finally, we clean and tighten the battery cables and terminals to ensure proper functionality.

5

Functionality Testing

We then initiate a startup sequence for the generator and perform performance testing, recording readings for output voltage, amperage, and frequency. This ensures that the generator is meeting all manufacturer specifications and is operating optimally for your needs.

6

Oil & Filter Replacement

(as per manufacturer specifications)
We check the oil levels and condition of the engine. If necessary, we perform a full oil change, replacing the old oil with fresh oil and installing a new oil filter this will be performed at least annually. We also replace the air filter and spark plugs as per the manufacturer’s schedule. Once the oil change is complete, we dispose of the used oil offsite in an environmentally responsible manner.

7

Liquid-Cooled Generators (if applicable)

For liquid-cooled generators, we inspect the belts for any signs of wear or tear. Additionally, we examine the radiator and coolant conditioner to ensure they are functioning properly and that the system is in good condition for reliable performance. We also inspect all mounting brackets for alternator and water pump.
